Assignment of Students to Schools and Classes

Assignment of students to elementary, middle and high schools will be according to the school attendance areas as established by the Board.

The assignment of students to classes is made by the principal or designee with the assistance of the guidance staff.

Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, Grades Nine and Ten

Pupils are assigned to the school of the designated school attendance area where their parents reside.  Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the Superintendent or his/her designee in the following instances:

            when an educationally related recommendation is made by a principal or     supervisor to   the effect that the pupil should attend school in another school attendance area;

when a medically related recommendation is made by a physician to the effect that the pupil should attend school in another school attendance area;

when a student transfers because of family relocation is to be made before the close of the first marking period or after the close of the third marking period; in this instance, the pupil may be permitted to begin the year at the new school or complete the year at the former school; and

when, in the judgment of the Superintendent or designee, an undue family hardship would result from having the pupil attend school in the designated school attendance area.

Grades Eleven and Twelve

Students who move out-of-district after having completed grades nine and ten at Platt or Maloney respectively will be allowed to continue at that school if they so choose.

Students are advised to complete the term at the school they are attending.  Pupils who move just prior to or during the two weeks at the end of a term known as “Test Weeks” should make every effort to take term tests in the school which they have been attending.

Parents must report promptly to the school administration any changes of home address.  Failure to do so may result in denial of option privileges.

In all instances of parent or student initiated requests, the parent or student shall assume all transportation responsibilities.

All granted requests are for one year only.  Any extension requires yearly application.
